Air Fryer Garlic Tofu Cubes

1 block (14 oz) firm or extra-firm tofu

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ginger, minced

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Press the Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top (like a cast-iron skillet) for about 15-20 minutes. This helps achieve a crispier texture.

    Cube the Tofu: After pressing, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.

      Make the Marinade: In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.

        Marinate the Tofu: Pour the marinade over the tofu cubes and gently toss until they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor).

          Coat with Cornstarch: Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated tofu cubes and toss again gently to coat. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy exterior.

            Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

              Air Fry the Tofu: Place the tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. If you have a smaller air fryer, you may need to do this in batches. Air fry for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even cooking.

                Add Sesame Seeds: If desired, sprinkle the tofu cubes with sesame seeds during the last 3 minutes of cooking for added flavor and crunch.

                  Serve: Once done, remove the tofu from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot as an appetizer, snack, or over a bed of rice or salad.
