Ingredients

For the tart crust:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced

¼ cup powdered sugar

1 large egg yolk

2-3 tablespoons ice water

For the apple filling:

4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

½ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 tablespoons flour

For the maple glaze:

½ cup maple syrup

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Optional garnish:

Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Instructions

Prepare the Tart Crust:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and powdered sugar. Add chilled diced butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

      - Add egg yolk and ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until a dough forms. Do not overwork it. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

        Make the Filling:

          - In another bowl, mix the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated and set aside to marinate for about 15 minutes.

            Preheat the Oven:

              - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

                Roll Out the Crust:

                  - On a lightly floured surface, roll out the tart dough to fit a 9-inch round tart pan. Place the rolled dough into the pan, pressing it into the edges and cutting off any excess.

                    Assemble the Tart:

                      - Layer the marinated apple filling evenly over the crust, arranging it neatly for an appealing look. Optionally, sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon on top.

                        Bake the Tart:

                          - Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.

                            Prepare the Maple Glaze:

                              - While the tart is baking, combine the maple syrup, butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm.

                                Glaze the Tart:

                                  - Once the tart is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Drizzle the warm maple glaze over the tart for a touch of sweetness.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra decadent treat!
