Classic Chicken Parmesan Pasta Bake

2 cups penne pasta

2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works well)

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

      Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, marinara sauce, minced garlic, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.

        Combine with Pasta: Add the cooked penne pasta to the chicken mixture, stirring to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

          Add Cheeses: In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese until well blended. Fold this cheese mixture into the pasta and chicken mixture, ensuring it's evenly distributed.

            Assemble the Bake: Transfer half of the pasta mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese over this layer. Add the remaining pasta mixture on top, then finish with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
