Ingredients

4 medium-sized apples (any variety you prefer, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

A pinch of salt

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Apples: Core the apples and slice them into wedges or halves, depending on your preference. Make sure to leave the skin on for added texture and flavor.

Mix the Coating: In a large mixing bowl, combine the maple syrup, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt. Stir well until all ingredients are blended.

Coat the Apples: Add the apple slices to the bowl and toss them in the maple mixture until they are evenly coated.

Arrange in Baking Dish: Place the coated apples in a greased baking dish (preferably an 8x8 inch square dish). If using nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the apples.

Add Butter: Dot the top of the apples with small pieces of butter, distributing it evenly across the surface.

Roast in the Oven: Roast the apples in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until they are tender and caramelized, stirring halfway through to help with even cooking.

Serve: Once roasted, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm, drizzled with any remaining maple syrup from the dish, and topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
